ADAMCHAKS RESIDENCE - SOUTH POINT
The Adamchaks had an existing porch that they wanted converted into living space. By leaving the existing roof, it was possible to add ten more feet of living space. The new space would include a large walk-in closet off the master bedroom and opening up the existing floor plan through the family room and kitchen.
The new exterior wall of the addition consists of one window after the next, to allow for abundant sunshine year round.
To create this large open space an engineered beam had to be installed just about the entire width of the addition. For support in the center, two 4x4 support posts were put in and around the 4x4 posts; a custom built island was designed.
Also, in the addition, (instead of conventional drywall) is a tongue and grooved wood ceiling.
Finally, there is a custom built book case, at one end of the living space that allows for added storage.
Other improvements made to the existing house were hard wood floors, new window trim, and paint.
